Do you know for sure that you are going to heaven when you die?  The Bible tells us in 1John 5:13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life  Dear Friend, one day you, like me, will die, but you have a never dying soul that will spend eternity in either heaven or hell. The word of God teaches us that we must realize some certain truths in order to go to heaven.

1. The Problem
You must realize that all of us have sinned.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
Every person who is alive today or has ever lived, except Jesus Christ, is a sinner.  Because you and I have the ability to distinguish between right and wrong we have the obligation to do right.

2. The Penalty
There is punishment for sin.
Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death, That word, “wages” is not commonly used in this context anymore, but we do use that term when referring to financial compensation for employment.  Do doubt, many of us started at a “minimum wage” job.
We must realize that the Bible speaks about two kinds of death: the physical and the eternal (second death).

Revelation 20:14-15 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.  This is the second death.  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

This is not an exciting concept, but it is vital that we understand that according to God’s holy Word if we die accountable for our sins we will go to hell.

3. The Payment

Jesus paid the penalty for our sins.
God loves us very much and sent His Son Jesus to die in our place.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  When Jesus died on the cross He paid our debt for sin by taking our punishment upon Himself.
Romans 6:23b but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
An eternal home in heaven is a gift to be received by faith in Jesus, trusting Him completely.  We cannot earn a gift, we do not deserve a gift; we must freely accept a gift.

4. The Present
Trust Christ to save you today.
If you realize that your sins have condemned you, and that Jesus is the only One who can save you, call on Him right now trusting Him with all your heart to save your soul.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

5. The Prayer
To call on the Lord right now, pray something like this from your heart: Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner; I know I deserve hell for my sins.  I believe You died for me, and I am trusting You to save me from hell and give me the gift of eternal life.  Thank you Jesus for saving me.  Amen.
